The Regiment

ATTENTION: I am about to attempt an upgrade to BuddyPress. Things may look a little wonky around here for a bit. Here goes.

UPDATE: It looks as if it worked. Things are a little bit different, but it’s all good. Time to spread the word again.

I’ve added a few new things to The Regiment this morning.

• Achievements — I still have to edit this a bit to make it more relevant to our site. Basically it confers achievements for completing certain activities on the site. This is just for fun.
• Twire — This allows you to tweet right from your profile here at The Regiment. You have to set this up for your account. It’s under your profile settings.

Let me know if there are any issues with these two new pieces of functionality, or with anything here on the site.

One goal here at The Regiment is to allow conservatives to network locally. Step one in that process is to attract members from every state. Then, someone from each state needs to step up and add a group for your state, and encourage others to join that group.

Group creation is quite easy. From the navigation bar at the top of the page hover on My Account. That will give you a drop down menu. About mid way down is “Groups”. Hover there and you have three options: My Groups, Create a Group, Invites. Click on Create a group and fill in the requested information. Submit and done!

For the state groups we have been using the form State Regiment for the group name. Right now the only state groups are:

• Florida Regiment
• Illinois Regiment

So, what can you do with a group?

Each group creates a corresponding forum where you can talk about almost anything. There is also “the wire” for each group. Think of it as sort of an in-house Twitter or Facebook wall.

I’d like to have members and groups for at least 25 states by the end of January. You can help. If you are already a member please consider starting a group for your state, or joining one that already exists. Also, I encourage everyone to join The Regiment group. That’s the one for all members. Finally, please continue to spread the word about The Regiment to your friends and online acquaintances. Hey, why not point them to this post? Thanks.

The Regiment is using WordPress MU and BuddyPress to help create a great group environment. One thing I want to make everyone aware of — you can create your own blog! The url will be in the form: marbleheadregiment.com/regiment/YOUR_BLOG_NAME
